ANADIGICS Introduces New Family of HELP(TM) (High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power) CDMA PA Modules

New Generation of CDMA-1X PA Modules Reduce Power Consumption by 50% vs. Competitive Products

WARREN, N.J., March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ANADIGICS, Inc. , a leading supplier of wireless and broadband solutions, today introduced a new family of HELP(TM) (High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power) CDMA linear power amplifier modules. The new AWT6137 AMPS/CDMA and AWT6138 PCS/CDMA PA modules deliver industry leading DC power consumption along with footprint compatibility with the previous generation of products.

"ANADIGICS has continuously gained CDMA market share by providing handset customers with best-of-breed products that deliver innovative and enabling technology for new handset designs," remarked Dr. Bami Bastani, President & CEO of ANADIGICS, Inc. "Building on our strong foundation in CDMA and growing momentum in GSM, we continue to pioneer new breakthroughs in power amplifier performance to further our position in the global handset market. Our new family of HELP(TM) PAs provide us with a unique technology platform that positions us for continued success in CDMA, as well as the wideband CDMA market."

The new HELP(TM) PA modules take advantage of novel and proprietary techniques to reduce handset power consumption by 50%, delivering an efficiency of 20% at +16 dBm, compared with 8% to 10% for currently available competitors' products. The devices' unique design utilizes mode switching to take advantage of high efficiency operation over a wide range of output powers. At +28 dBm, the AWT6137 and AWT6138 provide an efficiency of 39%. Both of the new HELP(TM) PAs provide low leakage currents in shutdown mode of less than 1muA, and the AWT6137 offers an industry leading idle current of 15mA at +28 dBm. The AWT6137 and AWT6138 support CDMA 1XRTT and 1xEV-DO operation.

"While our competitors' latest products require cumbersome analog control and use new module footprints, ANADIGICS' HELP(TM) PAs use the prevailing industry standard 4mm x 4mm module footprint and control logic," said Dr. Ali Khatibzadeh, Vice President of Wireless Products at ANADIGICS, Inc. "These features enable customers to take advantage of the enhanced performance and cost provided by our HELP(TM) PAs without any change to their phone board designs or significant software revisions. The substantial savings in power consumption provided by these power amplifiers enable handset manufacturers to use smaller, lower-cost batteries or, alternatively, increase functionality of their products while maintaining competitive operating times."

Future HELP(TM) PA products will include variants for the Korean and Japanese domestic markets as well as for WCDMA applications. The AWT6137 and AWT6138 power amplifiers are priced at $2.95 in quantities of 10,000 units. Samples are available.
